Patrick Gorniak Named McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce’s 2025 Frank E. Low Award Recipient

McHenry, IL — The McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce Patrick Gorniak as the recipient of its prestigious 2025 Frank E. Low Award. This award, the Chamber’s highest honor, is given to individuals who exemplify the spirit of Frank E. Low, inspiring others through selfless contributions to the community.

Patrick’s roots in McHenry run deep. A 1985 graduate of McHenry High School East Campus, Patrick began his career with the Public Works Department Street Division in 1986 as a maintenance worker. Over the years, he rose through the ranks, eventually becoming Superintendent of the City of McHenry Parks and Downtown Maintenance Department in 2014.

Throughout his 40-year career, Patrick has left an indelible mark on McHenry, leading transformative projects such as the expansion of the McHenry Riverwalk and enhancements to parks and public spaces. Under his leadership, the department introduced unique features, including the iconic hanging petunia baskets and the captivating Fireglobes along the Riverwalk, which inspired the highly anticipated "Light the Night Festival."

Patrick’s innovative ideas have turned simple concepts into cherished community experiences. From redesigning Veterans Park’s shelter and entrance to creating engaging seasonal attractions like the illuminated acrylic tubing at Miller Point, his work has elevated McHenry’s reputation as a vibrant and inviting destination.

His efforts extend beyond his professional duties. Patrick has been a dedicated community member, serving as a member of the McHenry Riverwalk Foundation.

Patrick will officially retire in April 2025 after an extraordinary 40 years of service, leaving behind a legacy of innovation, dedication, and community spirit.

The McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce will honor Patrick at its Annual Gala on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the Holiday Inn in Crystal Lake. This year’s theme, "The Beach Ball: A Trip to the Tropics," promises an evening of celebration and gratitude for Patrick’s remarkable contributions.
